Rockstar interns will be provided the opportunity to work with a variety of canines, including Pitbulls, Shepherds, Bull Terriers, Retrievers, and occasionally small dogs such as Shi Tzu's and Chihuahua's. Interns will have responsibilities in all aspects of daily care for our canines, as well as the transfer from County shelters/intake, to rehabilitation and recovery process to prepare for adoption. Interns will gain knowledge on canine-specific behavior, breed history, diet protocols and rescue techniques. Rockstar interns will assist staff with daily care and husbandry including diet preparation and distribution, medication preparation, enclosure cleaning and maintenance, physical and behavior observations, and environmental enrichment. This is an unpaid internship opportunity.
Term of Appointment:
Internships are offered for spring, summer, fall and winter sessions. Interns should be able to devote approximately 12 hours per week during the session. Each session lasts 3 months. Exact dates and days of the week are flexible and will be negotiated upon acceptance.
~ Spring session is March – May. Applications accepted through Feb. 15th.
~ Summer session is June – August. Applications accepted through May 15th.
~ Fall session is September – November. Applications accepted through Aug. 15th
~ Winter session is December - February. Applications accepted through Nov. 15th.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Must be in good physical condition and able to stand for long periods, squat, stoop, climb, crawl, and lift 50 pounds.
Preference given to undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a career in a related field.
Current COVID and tetanus vaccinations required.
If accepted, a $50 fee is required to cover administration costs such as the background check.
This is an unpaid internship. College credit may be arranged and offered with school approval; interns are responsible for obtaining necessary approval from their university.
Interns are responsible for their own transportation, and personal health insurance.
